Insulating your home will not only help you keep cooler and warmer. But will save you money in the long run. Your house loses heat or gains heat at a given rate based on the temperature. If you can slow this heat transfer down by insulating and sealing your house against the elements the amount of energy you need to heat or cool will likewise be reduced.

The first place to look at insulation is your attic. Based on where you live you will want to look at what the recommended levels of inflation are. In cold climates this is particularly important since heat rises and the loss through the roof of your house can be very substantial. This is normally a very simple job. You can use either blown insulation or rolled bats of fiberglass.

The next area you may want to look at that will provide the most bang for your buck will be your windows. Drafty windows are a huge area for heat loss in most houses. Installing new windows can significantly lower your energy bills. If new windows are not affordable right now make sure that you caulk any gaps around the window frames. You can also use readily available plastic sheeting to provide additional insulation for your windows.

In these times of higher energy prices it makes sense to insulate your house and make it more efficient.
