Do you have a room in your house which is smaller than you would like? There are several different home interior design you can use to making a small room appear larger than it really is. These are cosmetic (painting, lighting) as well as physical (furniture, organization) which can help increase the appearance of size.
No matter if a small room is a bedroom, a living room or kitchen, there are a number of principles which you need to follow to create the perfect home interior design.
The first principle should be the easiest and shouldn’t cost you much at all. Keep your house tidy!!! If you have an abundance of clutter you may need to buy some drawer organizers to keep everything tidy and neat in their places in a drawer instead of on a countertop or the floor!. If you haven’t already got one buy a bookshelf to store your books in an orderly fashion. Try and limit the amount of clutter to that which fits comfortably on your current shelving. If you’re a hoarder I know it might be difficult but only keep what you need. If you haven’t used it, worn it, read it or needed it in the last year then get rid of it. This is a cheap easy way to improve your home interior design.
To use the cosmetic approach to change the appearance of a small room eitherpaint or cover the walls in light color, such as cream, beige, mauve, yellow or other pastel shades. The reason for this is that light colors reflect light thus making a room appear larger and open. Use white or a very pale beige on the ceiling as this will also reflect light with the same effect. If your room has darker colors it can make the room seem smaller due to the limiting of light sources. Another simple tactic using the same principle is to place light colored rugs and carpeting on the floor.
Light plays an important role in the appearance of size for the perfect home interior design. Only have light colored shades that still adequately filter the wattage from the light bulb. Dark shades can reduce reflection in the same way dark paint can, resulting in the room being inadequately lit. Use light bulbs with generous wattage but remember follow guidelines recommended by the manufacturer of the lamp.
When placing furniture in a small room, alternate your grouping by placing a large piece followed by a small piece. For example, a short chair next to a tall bookcase or A tall lamp next to the couch. If you don’t want to buy new furnitureand have to make do with what you already have, then place it in conversation style as best as possible. A couch with an end table, facing one or two chairs with an end table and lamp. If you are willing to spend some money then purchase some tall furniture (but not too wide) to give the walls the added appearance of height. You can also use plants either fake or real and place them on top of furniture to add a few extra inches. Buy a 2 seat couch or loveseat instead of a full sized couch to save on space. Use narrower end tables or none at all if possible. Floor lamps work well beside or behind a large piece of furniture and reflect the light off the wall and down from the ceiling in one piece. Follow these simple tips and you will already be on your to an improved interior design.
