Plant Roses To Perk Up Up Any Garden Space

April 5th, 2008 · No Comments

How about livening up your garden by planting some rose bushes. The blooms are beautiful and there are so many varieties to choose from. Rose bushes can be used as a center piece of your garden or just an accent.

If you are ever given a potted rose bush as a gift, it may occur to you to transplant it into your own garden. Or you could just dash off to your local garden shop and pick up some rose bushes for planting. Roses make a wonderful addition to any garden.

It couldn’t be any easier to plant rose bushes. You just need to know how to do it in a step-by-step fashion. It’s also a fun thing to do. Follow these steps in the correct order and you will enjoy beautiful roses for years to come.

The planting season depends on where you live. For most people, you plant in the spring. Wait until the chance of frost has gone. If you live in a hot location like California or Florida, then plant in early autumn when it has cooled off.

It’s best to plant roses that don’t have any flowers on them. We just want to get the rose bush established. The flowers will come later. If you do have any flowers, then trim them off before you proceed.

It’s important to choose an area of the garden that has good conditions for roses. Ideally, roses should be planted where they receive a lot of morning light. At least six hours of morning light. This helps drive off the morning dew and reduces the risk of fungal disease.

The soil should be well prepared. This is important to ensure your rose bush gets well established. Dig a two foot deep hole for planting. Mix in a good amount of compost. Make sure the soil is well drained.

Lift your rose bush from it’s container and plant it. Make sure the soil level is matched between the planted rose bush and the surrounding area.

Form a small mote around the rose bush in the shape of a ring and fill it with water.

Job done. The rewards are well worth the tiny effort involved.

For your next garden project, how about considering a garden pergola. They sure add quite an eye-catching feature to most gardens. They are best built over a patio to give a little shade for sitting under. Don’t be put off by the cost. You could build one in a weekend for around $300.
