Do you need to add some pizzazz to your space? Are you tired of staring at the same four, blank walls, but don’t want to break the bank on expensive redecorating?
Whether your goal is to smarten up a bathroom, moderize your kitchen, or even create a new home theater, keep reading for some great ideas on how you can completely makeover a room and remain on budget.
1. Start with some free inspiration.
Before you even begin to plan, go to your local library and browse through design books and new decorating magazines to get an idea of the style you want.
Take a digital picture or photocopy of any ideas that really stand out, and bring them home for your “idea file.”
2. Start scouring the thrift shops.
Once you have a design inspiration in place, start scouring thrift shops, flea markets, auctions, consignment shops and wholesalers for great deals on either pieces that fit your mold or fabrics you can use.
Carrying around your room measurements with you in case you stumble on a great find. You don’t want to buy a fabulous sofa at a garage sale only to find out it doesn’t fit through your front door.
Finally, remember that everything has more than one purpose. A ladder could become a magazine rack, a vintage stool could be a television stand and an old, copper sink could be the foundation for a center piece coffee table. Look at everything with a healthy dose of imagination.
3. Reuse what you have.
Turn old curtains into new pillow cases or old tablecloths into a lamp covering. By converting something old into something new, you’re not only creating an item that’s totally unique, but you’re also cutting down on waste.
4. Always paint.
“Paint first” should be your new slogan. Painting is the cheapest and easiest way to instantly brighten and update a room. For just a few dollars a gallon, you can create a new space.
For a more dramatic look, try using a different color on one wall or experimenting with a new color.
5. Refinish your floors.
If you can’t afford a new floor, refinish your old floor. Either have your wood floors sanded or your carpets professionally cleaned. You’ll be amazed by how dramatically a refinished floor can change the appearance of a room.
For an inexpensive new floor, try throwing down a design rug. Opt for a cool color and a fun design.
Using a little creativity and imagination, you can make significant improvements to the appearance of any room in your home.

The ageless visual feature of Italy and its Venetian plaster finishes are glorious, affectionate, and rustic and these days easy to make in any home, definitely an unmatched level of beauty, elegance and sophistication. Whether you prefer the lustrous glare of Venetian plaster, sparkling Marmorino, or intemperately textured Venetian plaster with an “old wall” feel you will be guaranteed happiness with the end result.
Venetian Plaster consists of marble, sand and lime which has been ground exquisitely to a powder and can be tinted with paints and glazes. This is used in surface covering and creates a beautifully smooth finish. A stuccoed wall effect is made by applying various layers of tinted plaster with a trowel and is also known as “Italian plaster” or “Marmorino plaster”.
Natural lime plaster has been around since the period of the ancient Egyptians and the people of Antiquities. Primitively, the plaster was purely used for protection of structures. But the method was taken to another point by adding natural coloring material to add a decorative use for both interior and exterior applications.
This time-tested plaster method has understandably evolved into various designs and textures to suit the various tastes, with one of the more popular being the Venetian plaster, otherwise known as the Stucco Veneziano NYC. This is primarily because of the warm, living atmosphere this particular plaster lends to wherever it is applied to. Venetian plaster is made more popular with the onset of the more ‘organic’ trends in indoor design, as the natural tones produced by Venetian plaster mixes tends toward a very natural quality and texture.
One of the more relied-upon and time tested methods of producing a moderately long-lasting and arguably appealing indoor finish to walls and floors is through the use of plaster. The copiousness of the materials needed to make plaster prompted the general use of plaster in households throughout the ages, with known records of plaster used in history dating back to as early as the Mesopotamian civilization.
Another very handy use of plaster is for covering cracks or imperfections on household walls. The cohesiveness of plaster allows for it to be very suitable in sealing those unsightly cracks running down aged walls. Another good thing about this is the fact that when plaster does get to settle and harden, it is often more indestructible than paint, and thus able to last longer and look better too. Just like custom-made paints, plaster can be customized to whatever color tone or texture you think is best for your house.
Venetian plaster is also very flexible when it comes to application, as it can be used in both indoor and outdoor applications, and even in places that get frequent exposure to moisture, such as kitchens and bathrooms. This plaster can be applied to either an existing drywall, or even a wholly new wall made up of concrete, tile, bricks, and even wood. Customization is also no problem when using Venetian plaster, as colors can easily be mixed to produce the desired tone, and even the finish can be mixed using a combination of plaster finishes, allowing you to coordinate with the overall theme of your dwelling.
A lot of people may want Venetian plaster for the superb finish it applies to the floors and walls, but what many may not know is that using plaster finishes does come with its benefits. Limestone, a natural element of Venetian plaster, is a natural mold deterrent, thus preventing the increase of potentially hazardous molds within the household. Plaster, if applied properly, also allows the walls to ‘breathe’, thereby preventing moisture build-up. If used on outside walls, exterior venetian plaster can be washed down with acetone, allowing it to be restored to its initial state should the wall be subject to color blemishes, or even acts of vandalism, such as graffiti. Limestone, being basically an organic and natural substance, poses less of a danger to people with allergies to [spin]artificial|unnatural[spin] household building materials.
Venetian Plaster New York is considered by many people as a faux finish, however it is an excellent method to cover imperfection on walls or cracks and can be accomplished in an easy three part procedure. The first step is to apply a thin layer of plaster with a small trowel or filler knife, smooth it with a large trowel and let it dry. Then, with the small trowel apply the second layer of plaster in an x-pattern and let it dry. Finally, you need to smooth the layers with the large trowel and sand the surface to add an artful glow. For safety reasons it is extremely important to wear a dust mask and eye protection when using the sander.
Arguably, the best part of using Venetian Plaster is the budget factor. Venetian plaster finish is quite affordable and is an ideal choice for those on a budget.

A hidden security camera is a very helpful gadget you can set up in your home. If you have any suspicion that something may not be quite right, you can record everything on camera even when you’re out of your house. Even the easiest spy camera can be hooked up and used to protect your home. Some systems allow you to watch footage in real time either on monitors or over the internet.
The cameras you will use have to be positioned in a number of places around the house. This way, the different angles of your home are properly covered. There should be no one who could come to your entrance without you seeing them on the camera screen. This way, there’s less chance of anyone sneaking into your home unnoticed.
If you have suspicion that someone may be doing, or have done something questionable, you have evidence to back up your idea. How could recorded video be refuted? This is why more and more parents use the spy cam to make sure their children left with nannies are truly cared for by the nannies, not maltreated or neglected.
For these types of cameras, you can use tapes that can be played longer, so you can record goings-on the whole day even when you have to go out. This is especially useful for working parents who are at their jobs most of the day. Who knows, their home may even be the target for some crime they have to know about!
Not many people can afford to personally check their home at day time or their business at night. Why hire security personnel when you can use a hidden spy camera instead? It’s like having a watch dog all the time, but better because you have evidence on tape if something improper does happen.

My office handles confidential information and takes security very seriously. We have a full-time security liaison who works exclusively at making sure our site is secure as it possibly can be. He’s a really friendly and knowledgeable man. When I recently bought my first home I asked him for advice on the best security system I could get for my needs. He didn’t hesitate to recommend home motion detectors. I was kind of surprised as I thought it would be an incredibly expensive system. Turns out it’s really not as much as I thought – plus I get a break on my homeowners insurance!
